SmartDeviceLink

SmartDeviceLink brings moble experiences into vehicles.

As lead designer for SmartDeviceLink, an open-source project maintained by a global consortium of automotive and tech partners, I owned design across the developer portal, product features, and marketing. I led research, designed improvements, and oversaw a third-party development firm through production and QA. During my tenure, consortium membership grew and annual funding increased from $1.5M to $2.4M.

One of the most ambitious features we launched was a platform for developers and OEMs to track issues and communicate directly on the developer portal. Each developer could attribute partners and devices to their products, monitor development, and flag any issues that might come up. As partners, OEMs could then respond to the issues and offer support.

I designed improvements to the developer experience, including optimizing support for different code bases with tabbed snippets.

On the front end, I designed marketing pieces that simplified the SmartDeviceLink offering. In categorizing our solutions, partners could more easily apply libraries to their related products.

I was responsible for managing and maintaining SDL’s public appearance. I would design, organize, and support our partners through any events, ensuring brand consistency and compelling demos.
